Call to Bookworms

I am choosing specific books to read this year and I'm planning ahead. I want to be sure to read excellent books with the option of getting them from the library. If I plan ahead, I believe my success in this venture will be much higher. I have updated and added a Shelfari widget to the right. These are books I have chosen so far. I would love input from anybody who has suggestions for a good read. The more comments I get on this subject, the better! If, by some wonderful chance, you own one of these books and want me to borrow them, I will oblige willingly. If you don't want me to borrow them and I find out you have them and are hogging them for no apparent reason, I will withhold good reads from you until you bring me chocolate.

    Have you read Left to Tell, by Immaculee Ilibagiza? It's fantastic. And for a fun, wholesome read, I really enjoyed the Mitford series by Jan Karon, about an Episcopalian minister in a small town--modern problems, but no swearing and a lot of good spiritual insights.

    Nancy read these and then come to book club and read with us too. Tonight (Wed.)at 7 at Laura Hale's we are discussing the picks for the year. We have fun, food and semi-intellectual discussions. I am the secretary and send out reminders each month. Do you want the list? We would love to have you come.

    Have you read The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls? My absolute favorite read from the last couple of years. Also loved Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson. Ewww, those are both non-fiction...what's happening to me?

    Hey Nanner-ha! One of my favorite questions is "do you know any good books to read?" I could go on for days!!!!!! in fact one of the things i love about your blog is seeing what is on your shelfari and i am always thrilled to see we still have the same taste in books. anyway . . . books. it is easier for me to tell you authors. Lynn Austin, T. Davis Bunn, Stephanie Grace Whitson, Mindy Starns Clark, Kristin Heitzman, Deanna Gist and Dee Henderson are all talented Christian authors who aren't too preachy in their stories. my favorite LDS authors are Betsy Brannon Green, Alma Yates, Josi Kilpack, NC Allen, Dean Hughes, Kerry Blair, Traci Abramson and some others i can't remember. with all of these authors their later works are better than their early tries [except BB greene - her early stuff was better] Dorothy Gilman writes fairly clean and very good, as does Elizabeth Peters. Oh! Janette Rallison (aka Sierra St. James) writes youth books for Scholastic that are very good and adult fiction for Des. Book.
    i am always looking for 'good reads' too [i'm actually a 'friend' on goodreads.com or something like that] so i am anxious to see what the responses to your question are. i know a few websites that screen books or suggest them and i'll look them up and let you know. are you concerned about content at all? Too Sick to be Sick

I am sick.  Really and truly sick.  I even took a sick day and felt no guilt whatsoever that maybe I wasn't sick enough to have a "sick day."  Because I am.  My 5 year old was sick, too so I took him to the doctor.  I refuse to acknowledge that I'm sick because I don't get sick.  So with absolute glee, my little boy climbed up onto the table, stuck out his tongue and conversed with the doctor.  I heard something about cloudy ears and antibiotics and then I just turned it off. It hurts when sound reaches my eardrums. We drove back home, I turned on the television, brought in the dog, and let the babysitting begin.  I crawled back into bed and swam somewhere between consciousness and unconsciousness.  The kids came home from school.  I might have acknowledged them.  I made chicken noodle soup from scratch.  I couldn't even think.  My husband caught me in a sway and asked what he could do.  I grunted some terse instructi...

I Hate Pants

I wrote this on my Facebook page: Makayla just wandered upstairs and found me reading on the sofa, pants discarded, as usual. She laughed at me. I laughed at her. Then I realized that Makayla Jensen is not my daughter. Go home, Makayla! I'm not putting my pants back on just because you are here!  There are now two camps. People who agree with me and people who have absolutely no idea why anybody would discard pants upon entering home. Fortunately, I've found that I'm not in a camp all by myself.
