Couponing, Walgreen's and My Weakness

Walgreen's advertising agency is diabolically genius.

I had $3 in Register Rewards burning a hole in my purse. As I considered returning to the Walgreen's near my house I felt vomit in my mouth. Just a little bit. And so I went to the one closest to work. It was on the way. Kind of. Okay, maybe 6 miles out of my way. At the most 10.

Gina in "Coz" (short for cosmetics, she informed me) helped me find everything they had in stock AND helped me maximize my savings. She didn't mind that I bought multiples of anything in a single day. Not only that, she called over a young man named Logan and found that the Gillette Fusion razors would be coming in the next day (yesterday). She offered to hold one for me. Logan overheard, commented Gina had the day off, and then watched diligently all the next day until the shipment came in then called me.

This morning I had Register Rewards again (from my transactions with my new BFF, Gina) and came out with what I wanted all along - a razor for my husband for a really good price. Along with my new razor, I earned (I use that word loosely) $6 more in Register Rewards! It's like playing the slot machines in Vegas! Put in a quarter, put in a quarter, put in a quarter, put in a quarter, put in a quarter, put in a quarter, put in a quarter, put in a quarter, put in a quarter, put in a quarter and ZING! I won a quarter back!

Pretty soon I'll be salivating every time Pavlov rings a bell.

  1. What are register rewards? Is it free money? So glad you found your new BFF at Walgreens!

  2. First, I don't know who this hooker Gina in "Coz"is, but I thought I was your new BFF.

Second, I like the idea of having the savings to cover the extra cash being spent on gas to drive out of the way to get to the savings. Everyone needs a hobby.

  3. It's a slippery slope. You'll snatch the Walgreen's ad from the Sunday paper, and carefully plan your purchases, figuring how far you can travel to other stores to offset your savings with the cost of gas.

Be careful, corporate marketers are dangerous. The next step is to purchase all the items from the "As Seen on TV" display as Christmas gifts for friends and family.

    Consider this your warning...lol

  4. With such a beautiful name it is no wonder that she is your new BFF. Tell her "hi" from me next time she is your personal shopper!

  6. Thank you for your comment. Wow, it sounds like you went through a seriously rough patch. Thanks for the encouragement to wait and listen for God's voice. (and to push through this without ignoring my kids.) Thank you for sharing.

  7. You are killing me. I am stealing your post and posting it on my own site. You put everything into words better than I do.
The other day after a great CVS trip I came home and informed my husband that I just had an 30 min. affair with the CVS guy. He grounded me from CVS. I am going to have to switch to Walgreens.

  8. I'm going to go coupon this week. Not sure what I'll get but I'm a gunna do it.

Hahaha that kills me-facebook makes me crazy but it's way better than myspace and don't get me started on twitter.

  10. Hey Nancy!

This is Erin that used to work with your husband (trying to be discreet) and have been wondering lately if you coupon :). Out here in the South they have a site that breaks everything down for CVS and Walgreens, and since I didn't coupon while in UT I wasn't sure if they have one out there that you use, but in case they don't I wanted to let you know about this one: southernsavers.com The ads should be the same as far as I know, let me know if you have any questions. Your blog is my favorite, btw. ;)

Braces!

13 year old got braces today! She also had a little helper on her.

I am being published!

I know! It just reeks of excitement, doesn't it?  I know what you are thinking. "Who would publish that woman's thoughts?" The answer is a lovely little outfit called www.blog2print.com. In other words, I haven't been discovered. I am no closer to being a published author than I was yesterday EXCEPT that by Christmas I will be the proud owner of my very own blog book! I know. It's a little anticlimactic but here's the cool part. My friend, Becki, found me entertaining and directed me to a blog called www.josikilpack.blogspot.com.  She posted a little coupon code for 20% off which was supposed to end last week. Apparently, the code is still good and I saved $14. That said, you know it isn't exactly the cheapest way to get published but it's the best price I could find on publishing my blog!  And it requires very little technical know-how.  And that, my friends, tickles my heart. And, for a small price of your integrity and dignity, I will share the ...

Wordful Wednesday and Clever Much? Rarely!

Sometimes my brilliance blinds me! Speaking of brilliance, before we continue this discussion, if you are my mother in law, stop reading. Walk away. At least until after Christmas. Seriously. My own mother doesn't read my blog. I think it has something to do with words like "socially awkward" and "mortifying." She knows me. She doesn't have to read about me. She can just pretend like I turned out normal. Anyway, if the mother-in-law has exited the website, check out what she's getting for Christmas! TADA! I'd like to give a special shout out to the internet and whatever site I was cruising through last week for planting this idea into my head. Usually not this creative and I definitely don't know where I got the energy to take the kids out for pictures. Or go to Walmart for the frame. And Robert's for the mat. Costco for the pictures.  Yeah, I painted the frame, too. So not my style. Anymore. I also ordered a canvas print for my husband but I...
