Once upon a time the smoke alarm went off while I was cooking and the children cried, screamed and freaked out. I'd have to bundle them up and take them outside and wait it out.
Today the boys meandered to check if I'd burned something then returned to playing Legos. The teenager waited a full minute and a half to wander upstairs to double check. The 11 year old didn't even make an appearance.
It goes off about twice a month when I'm cooking.
Is this a bad sign?

Time to play out your fire escape plan. Good reminder. Put me in that scene and I wouldn't of even lifted an eye from the book I was reading until I felt flame. Definitely need to practice our escape plan.
ReplyDeleteThe children have learned to discern that the alarm can mean stuff has fallen on the bottom of the oven burner...now, if it happened when you weren't cooking, I bet they'd freak out all over again.
ReplyDeleteMy son learned how to wave a Monopoly board like a fan under the ceiling-mounted smoke alarm so he could once again hear the TV.
It's the dinner's ready bell at my in-laws.
ReplyDeleteBahahahahahaha! That's hilarious! Can you move your smoke alarm so it's not directly over the stove/oven?
ReplyDeleteLOL too funny! No worries, ours go off all the time! :o)
ReplyDeleteThis is why God invented Domino's Pizza Delivery.
ReplyDeleteTime to have the kids start cooking...
ReplyDeleteLove it! I think it just adds to the overall family portrait your kids will paint in their memories.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing how we get so used to things that we actually become immune. I believe your post is a reminder to us ( me )not to be blind at the things directly under our nose. On a lighter note, don't you just love how kids adapt? Lxx
