MIKAROSE GIVEAWAY

It's not that I have anything against dress shopping for my daughters because I don't. Shopping is second nature to me. At least it used to be. Especially enjoyable was this little store in Provo that sold little girl dresses. I could buy both girls dresses that matched for just a little over what I carried in my wallet. Yay for me!
Then we met the skirt phase. Not a bad phase, really. It worked well until we had the 9th grade night dance. It was dress time!

Back to my little favorite shop in Provo. Did I mention it had the cutest little dresses you ever did see?  Ruffles, taffeta, petticoats already sewn in... oh, and up to size 6x. Eyeing my 5'8" daughter, I decided I might not be living in the reality world.

No worries!  I returned to the mall. Store after store offered dress after dress.  There were a lot of slinky, slutty, and downright offensive dresses. Hello! She's in the 9th grade and NO WAY was she going in anything that showed that much skin!  I ended up buying a dress I didn't love and altering it myself. Did I mention I don't sew?

Enter Mikarose. These are just about the classiest dresses on the market, very modest without looking like your mother.  Not that your mother isn't a beautiful person but, let's be honest, you want to be trendy, too.

Dresses are back, ladies, and Mikarose has agreed to give one of you lucky ladies (or men, if you are a cross dresser, I suppose) one of their beautiful creations. Between you and me, I bought the scarves last Easter on a whim. I have had to hide them from my daughters but they make the dress.

If you want a Mikarose dress (and trust me, you really do), jump right over to their store with this link here.  Window shop a bit, pick out a dress of your choice, and leave a comment about that dress in my comment box (and really, don't forget to accessorize.  I can not stress how adorable I look in these scarves. I was wearing one the day I met my boyfriend, Steve Young, former 49ers quarterback).

Contest ends Friday at 11:59 PM.

* My association with Mikarose has been strictly paying customer. I will not complain if you enter me into any drawings at the site, but that is not my objective. I really, really endorse this company and I want you to be as darling as I am. But please comb your hair a little better than I did.

  7. I just found your blog and checked out the Mikarose site. Love their dresses!!! It's so hard to find dresses that are long enough and have sleeves. I love the Alice dress (and it's on clearance!) and the Eva. That one is so classy and could be totally dressed up with a cute belt and funky shoes.

The Most Dreaded Words

Everybody knows that Christmas is about keeping the Santa Secret and pleasing your children. Therefore, the most dreaded words are uttered on Christmas Eve. "I changed my mind, I want a [pony, scooter, bike, Red Rider BB gun]" A close second place winner is, "Can I have a New Year's Eve party?" Then, "Me, too?"

Too Sick to be Sick

I am sick.  Really and truly sick.  I even took a sick day and felt no guilt whatsoever that maybe I wasn't sick enough to have a "sick day."  Because I am.  My 5 year old was sick, too so I took him to the doctor.  I refuse to acknowledge that I'm sick because I don't get sick.  So with absolute glee, my little boy climbed up onto the table, stuck out his tongue and conversed with the doctor.  I heard something about cloudy ears and antibiotics and then I just turned it off. It hurts when sound reaches my eardrums. We drove back home, I turned on the television, brought in the dog, and let the babysitting begin.  I crawled back into bed and swam somewhere between consciousness and unconsciousness.  The kids came home from school.  I might have acknowledged them.  I made chicken noodle soup from scratch.  I couldn't even think.  My husband caught me in a sway and asked what he could do.  I grunted some terse instructi...

What We Eat

Check out the good looking crew.  Just to clarify.  I'm the pretty one. There's a little mountain resort in Northern Utah that is invaded every July by this group of people. We are an intimidating bunch. 5 years ago my brother brought his Nepalese bride to the United States.  She lived in a country where she had no expectation to ever drive a car.  She bought her food daily from the market and ate it.  She taught English, although her accent was so strong when she arrived I questioned her grasp of the language.  We tried to be friendly and accepting.  We ended up scaring the daylights out of her. She thought we were crazy.  Her words, not mine. Although I think she tolerated me a little better than the others because I had the brand new fair-haired baby that she continued to steal.  She wanted a blond haired, blue eyed baby and wondered what her chances were now that she married an American. We take turns cooking for the family dinners. ...
