Did I mention my baby turned 5 years old?

Things to know about him:

He was 3 and half weeks early and very tiny.
He slept the first two months of his life.
I had to pump then feed him a bottle in his sleep.
He's a cuddler.
He loves to put his fingers in my hair and twist it around.
He stopped kissing me for a couple of months because he was too big.
He started giving me nice big smooches again about three weeks ago.
He only has two speeds. Fast and Asleep.
He likes to build things with stools, chairs, and blankets.
He always wants to play.
His favorite drink is chocolate milk warmed up seventeen times.
His favorite book is "The Big Blue Book."
He calls swords "sheens."
He believes that he won't have bad dreams if I read him a story before bed.
He often says, "Mom, I want to be hold."
He sits or stands on my back if I'm on the floor.
He gives spontaneous hugs.
His eyes are windows to heaven and my heart.
I think I've never been loved as much as right now.

    Five years old isn't a baby anymore!

    I hope his birthday is everything he wants it to be!

    When we get busy and sidetracked, it's easy to forget how blessed we truly are - thanks for the reminder!

    I've always considered June to be a freakin genius, but she is wrong: 5 is deffinitely still a baby. Especially if child in question is either the last born or the only born.

    I dread the day when my Shorty tells me to stop calling her baby girl.

Pioneer Trek

Utah was founded by the Mormon pioneers in 1847 after enduring unimaginable losses and seeking a place of peace. July 24th marks the anniversary that the first wagon trains arrived in the Salt Lake Valley. Their numbers were greatly diminished by crossing the country in wagons and handcarts, dying of scurvy, tuberculous, malaria, starvation, unidentified fevers, and freezing to death. This, they found preferable to facing the extermination order put forth by Governor Boggs of Missouri. I believe this is the most courageous act of faith - to leave all they had that was familiar and travel the rough terrain in the unknown in search of a place where they could worship in peace. My daughters left this morning for a small re-creation of what the pioneers experienced. I don't love the idea since I know so many of the pioneers died but it is a way for many of the youth to connect to their ancestors and understand what many of the early members endured for their faith. Flu

The flu has been making its way through our family.  The first to be hit was the 15 year old.  She was very, very angry.  At me.  She had been begging for the flu shot for the past three months.  I kept forgetting.  She got better but it's one more thing to discuss on her future therapist's couch.
