Kindle and Technology

Did I tell you I got a Kindle for my birthday?  I got a Kindle for my birthday.  I downloaded all kinds of books off NetGalley.com then wondered if I could download my scriptures, too.  I've seen a couple of Ipads at church as well as Ipods.  Although not user friendly, I was able to download my scriptures as well as LDS General Conference talks.  Then I went to church feeling pretty technologically inclined.  Turns out I'm way behind on the trends.

During Sunday school, I counted no less than 10 ipods where my fellow congregation were reading their assigned scriptures.  In fact, they were quickly finding their references while I was still fumbling with the different buttons, changing the font, format, and squinting like a little old man.

After church I stopped to talk to my friend, Courtney.  She was just typing into her ipod, "tithing settlement" and then, with a tap here and there, changed the day and time and typed in, "Jaxon's scouts."

"Do you keep your scriptures on there, too?"

"Sure.  I got the kind you can highlight and includes cross-references."  I slowly hid my Kindle behind my back.

At least I have novels to read when the speakers bore me or the Sunday school teacher gets dry.  Oh, wait.  That's my husband.

It's official, though.  I am a technotard.

  1. WOOPS I don't own a Kindle... I feel very untrendy now .V.
The iPad looks a tad more techy than a Kindle though :p

  2. I have a Kindle and totally LOVE it! I didn't even try to load my scriptures on it. I prefer the old fashioned version of scriptures so everyone knows I'm diligently paying attention and not potentially playing a game... :-)

The Kindle ROCKS. Don't let the scriptures get you down! (I bet you've never heard that before)

  3. I just use my cell phone to read the scriptures. I also downloaded the Mormon Channel and all the Conference talks onto my phone during sacrament meeting, yesterday. I think Jesus would approve.

  4. Don't worry about it, Nancy. My phone doesn't even take pictures, let alone download anything.

  5. I have neither and am wondering if I dare venture down that path.....I look around in sacrament meeting and see heads buried look at their phone and wonder if they are texting, facebooking or actually reading their scriptures.

  8. I'll stick to paper reading in church. My husband's favorite is watching a guy pull out his ipod to sing from the hymnal in sacrament meeting. Seemed a little unnecessary. For me I wouldn't want to bringing all the other things to church with me that I know are sitting out there to tempt me on my phone. Great blog, btw. I'm excited to start following.

Braces!

13 year old got braces today! She also had a little helper on her.

I am being published!

I know! It just reeks of excitement, doesn't it?  I know what you are thinking. "Who would publish that woman's thoughts?" The answer is a lovely little outfit called www.blog2print.com. In other words, I haven't been discovered. I am no closer to being a published author than I was yesterday EXCEPT that by Christmas I will be the proud owner of my very own blog book! I know. It's a little anticlimactic but here's the cool part. My friend, Becki, found me entertaining and directed me to a blog called www.josikilpack.blogspot.com.  She posted a little coupon code for 20% off which was supposed to end last week. Apparently, the code is still good and I saved $14. That said, you know it isn't exactly the cheapest way to get published but it's the best price I could find on publishing my blog!  And it requires very little technical know-how.  And that, my friends, tickles my heart. And, for a small price of your integrity and dignity, I will share the ...

Wordful Wednesday and Clever Much? Rarely!

Sometimes my brilliance blinds me! Speaking of brilliance, before we continue this discussion, if you are my mother in law, stop reading. Walk away. At least until after Christmas. Seriously. My own mother doesn't read my blog. I think it has something to do with words like "socially awkward" and "mortifying." She knows me. She doesn't have to read about me. She can just pretend like I turned out normal. Anyway, if the mother-in-law has exited the website, check out what she's getting for Christmas! TADA! I'd like to give a special shout out to the internet and whatever site I was cruising through last week for planting this idea into my head. Usually not this creative and I definitely don't know where I got the energy to take the kids out for pictures. Or go to Walmart for the frame. And Robert's for the mat. Costco for the pictures.  Yeah, I painted the frame, too. So not my style. Anymore. I also ordered a canvas print for my husband but I...
