facebook Pet Peaves

  1. Friending me for the sole purpose to promote the latest game; farmville, cityville, Yoville, ihearts or hugs.  25 years and the first contact is an invitation to join farmville.  I'm fine.  How are you?
  2. Writing out your whole life and hang ups for all the world to see.  For instance, "I was sexually abused by my father for 6 years, my stepfather for 8 years, got pregnant in high school (wondered where I went, didn't ya'!), married an abusive man, finally took control of my life, left the bum and now I am in a committed homosexual relationship with the love of my life (2 months and counting!) and am working towards my social work license."         I SO could NOT make this stuff up.
  3. Drinking photos.
  4. Bikini photos.
  5. Posting every half hour about the latest argument with significant other.
  6. Updates every 5 minutes.  "Drank a Coke."  "Peed."  "Drinking another Coke."
  7. Constant political activism posts.  Chiding those who are not actively involved in Proposition Whatever.
  8. Need spellcheck?  Please use it.
  9. The effu people.  They were a little off during college.  With a few years to marinate their bitterness, they glom onto every hot button issue and write in caps their position (usually not the popular position) laced with profanity.
  10. The knee-jerk people.  The people who grab every weird and outlandish story who just MUST post and plead that you repost or the country will be over run with communists, aliens or black, Muslim presidents.
  11. Beautiful people.  And skinny.  Okay, that one is my jealousy bone talking.  Shut up.
Any more?

Comments

  1. I have one FB friend on my list who regularly rants about which people she is deleting from her friends' list - so far, I've made the cut.

I don't know this young woman well, but I know a lot more about her live-in boyfriend who is still married (and pics of her drinking with the wife, too). She's the same gal who posted that she's going to make a hit list, and certain people should be very afraid (the day after the Tucson shootings).

I have one drinking picture in FB - me and my stepdaughter - but I am so uncool, I'm drinking a Coke.

  2. Vague-booking: deliberately posting something vague so that everyone immediately posts, "what's wrong"...

I may or may not be guilty of this a time or two, but I try not to be. I prefer subliminal...

  3. I am with Laurie. I HATE vaguebooking.

  5. I share your pet peeves for Facebook! I couldn't help but laugh out loud while reading.

  6. This is why I "friend" people who request me for the sake of being nice, then hide them. I'm pretty sure about 75% of my Facebook friends are hidden, actually, with only the people whose updates I actually care about being visible. It makes life much less cluttered and more pleasant :-)

  7. I can't stand when people constantly post about work related stuff. Hey asshat, that's what LinkedIn is for.

Great list - gave me a good laugh.

  8. My pet peeve? The people with 5 million friends. Why?!?!
Or people who constantly post self portraits of themselves. I know what you look like. Please stop.

  9. I'm sorry my beautiful photos are making you feel bad about yourself....

Oh, wait! We're not FB friends yet! Why is that?

    ReplyDelete
  10. People posting bad photos of you and then tagging it. By the time I actually get on and see it so has EVERY other person I know. Vanity...yes!

  11. You seem to forget that, to me, you are the beautiful, skinny person. Why am I friends with you, again?

  12. Sounds like just about every type of post on FB is listed here...lol I am with you here. But I do like to check in now and then and leave some posts. Hopefully they are somewhat meaningful, at least on the surface.... :-)

  13. Ha ha... I'd never be able to post then...

    Just Kidding! ;)

I mostly just talk about my kids on facebook and post way too many pictures, but they are cute so that's okay right?

  14. Add vaguebooking and then detailing every single thing about your relationship and this would be my complete list.

How To Be A Dedicated Neurotic

Going through old files from graduate school, I found an invaluable pamphlet. Be a Dedicated Neurotic Remember the Past. . . and Regret it. Abhor the Present. Dread the Future. 1. Become preoccupied with the body, and make a long list of symptoms. Make them sound very clinical and professional... 2. BLAME your boss, your spouse, your partner, your neighbor, your kid. THEY are responsible for your miseries. 3. Feel trapped. You couldn't possibly declare your own independence without hurting someone's feelings. 4. Overeat. Rationalize and eat! Eat an insulated wall around yourself. Diet for a few days and say it doesn't work for you. 5. Self-pity. No matter what, feel sorry for yourself. Agonize over things about which no one cares. 6. Don't ever try. That way nobody can really accuse you of failure. You can always say, "But I could have done it." 7. Stress how shy you are. Insist that the world must come to you. You're special. 8. Your agg...

Pioneer Trek

Utah was founded by the Mormon pioneers in 1847 after enduring unimaginable losses and seeking a place of peace. July 24th marks the anniversary that the first wagon trains arrived in the Salt Lake Valley. Their numbers were greatly diminished by crossing the country in wagons and handcarts, dying of scurvy, tuberculous, malaria, starvation, unidentified fevers, and freezing to death. This, they found preferable to facing the extermination order put forth by Governor Boggs of Missouri. I believe this is the most courageous act of faith - to leave all they had that was familiar and travel the rough terrain in the unknown in search of a place where they could worship in peace. My daughters left this morning for a small re-creation of what the pioneers experienced. I don't love the idea since I know so many of the pioneers died but it is a way for many of the youth to connect to their ancestors and understand what many of the early members endured for their faith. The youth were asked...

Flu

The flu has been making its way through our family.  The first to be hit was the 15 year old.  She was very, very angry.  At me.  She had been begging for the flu shot for the past three months.  I kept forgetting.  She got better but it's one more thing to discuss on her future therapist's couch. Today I picked up my 5 year old from school.  He told me about making valentine's for his friends and how he gave his valentine to his best friend, Chase.  Chase is the little boy who grabbed my scarf on my way to my car today, looked at me earnestly and yelled his telephone number to me so fast I couldn't process it then ran away. "Today I felt so sick." "Why didn't you call me to pick you up?" "I told Teacher but she didn't call you." "What did you say?" "I told her my head hurt and I felt dizzy." "What did she say?" "She told me I wasn't sick." I took mental note to talk to his teacher about c...
