Flat Stanley in Arizona

Flat Stanley is traveling this weekend. He came with my sisters and I to Arizona for my nephew's school project. Here's what he has been doing so far:
This is Stanley watching my sister's shoes and purse.  He is now radioactive.
Stanley doesn't know which gate he should take.
He went to a picture of Arches.  Stanley gets around.
Captain America posing with his new best friend, Stanley.  Don't you feel confident with a captain that looks like this?  Surprisingly, his singing over the intercom system did not have the same effect.
Stanley did not get a first class seat.
Stanley and I were disturbed by the state of my sister's Barbie house.  First of all, all them were clothed.  Secondly, none of them had been decapitated.

It's just wrong.

Fortunately, Barbie on the right is an amputee. Stanley got a little too comfortable here.
So we went downstairs to see Ken.  Ken had a party last night and fell asleep partially clothed and hadn't picked up the lamp.  Stanley was feeling uncomfortable so he continued down to the kitchen.
Malibu Barbie didn't know how to cook but she was sitting nicely at the table, posing for a picture so Stanley sat with her.

Overall, his trip to Barbie's house was disturbing and he left quickly.  Stanley will keep you apprised of his trip.

  3. Well, at least there wasn't any of that "naked running" at Barbie's house:)

  4. There is absolutely nothing wrong with naked running Barbies or Nancys or even Annes. It is what it is. Now go take inventory in YOUR house. How many clothed vs. unclothed Barbies do you have? How many don't have heads vs. have heads?

  5. I'm the same age as you dear, should I know who Flat Stanley is? Clearly we ran in different circles. Is he Utah Mormon thing? Us Michigan Momrmons didn't keep up on the culture too well. I can see your fascination though. If you look at him from the side, he looks a lot like me.

I do recall my three sister's collections of headless naked barbies though. That's universal.

  6. Checked the house--I could only find one Barbie out--fully clothed. Sorry to disappoint. And Scott, "Flat Stanley" was written after you and I were in school. I think every kid in every state is required to send one around the world.

  7. When I got home Nancy explained. Kind of a fun idea. Not as fun as something like Round Randy would be, but hey, whatever.

He could bounce all over the world!

  8. This is fun and entertaining. If only I could be so creative when traveling. I should make these things instead of travel games. I'm sensing it's time for a change.

  9. My daughters take pictures of them doing cartwheels everywhere they travel. My favorite one is them cartwheeling in front of the TV Tower in Shanghai.

  10. Oh I love it! Flat Stanley's sure getting around, isn't he? ;)

  11. All the Barbies at our house are a bit exhibitionist...

How To Be A Dedicated Neurotic

Going through old files from graduate school, I found an invaluable pamphlet. Be a Dedicated Neurotic Remember the Past. . . and Regret it. Abhor the Present. Dread the Future. 1. Become preoccupied with the body, and make a long list of symptoms. Make them sound very clinical and professional... 2. BLAME your boss, your spouse, your partner, your neighbor, your kid. THEY are responsible for your miseries. 3. Feel trapped. You couldn't possibly declare your own independence without hurting someone's feelings. 4. Overeat. Rationalize and eat! Eat an insulated wall around yourself. Diet for a few days and say it doesn't work for you. 5. Self-pity. No matter what, feel sorry for yourself. Agonize over things about which no one cares. 6. Don't ever try. That way nobody can really accuse you of failure. You can always say, "But I could have done it." 7. Stress how shy you are. Insist that the world must come to you. You're special. 8. Your agg...

Pioneer Trek

Utah was founded by the Mormon pioneers in 1847 after enduring unimaginable losses and seeking a place of peace. July 24th marks the anniversary that the first wagon trains arrived in the Salt Lake Valley. Their numbers were greatly diminished by crossing the country in wagons and handcarts, dying of scurvy, tuberculous, malaria, starvation, unidentified fevers, and freezing to death. This, they found preferable to facing the extermination order put forth by Governor Boggs of Missouri. I believe this is the most courageous act of faith - to leave all they had that was familiar and travel the rough terrain in the unknown in search of a place where they could worship in peace. My daughters left this morning for a small re-creation of what the pioneers experienced. I don't love the idea since I know so many of the pioneers died but it is a way for many of the youth to connect to their ancestors and understand what many of the early members endured for their faith. The youth were asked...

Flu

The flu has been making its way through our family.  The first to be hit was the 15 year old.  She was very, very angry.  At me.  She had been begging for the flu shot for the past three months.  I kept forgetting.  She got better but it's one more thing to discuss on her future therapist's couch. Today I picked up my 5 year old from school.  He told me about making valentine's for his friends and how he gave his valentine to his best friend, Chase.  Chase is the little boy who grabbed my scarf on my way to my car today, looked at me earnestly and yelled his telephone number to me so fast I couldn't process it then ran away. "Today I felt so sick." "Why didn't you call me to pick you up?" "I told Teacher but she didn't call you." "What did you say?" "I told her my head hurt and I felt dizzy." "What did she say?" "She told me I wasn't sick." I took mental note to talk to his teacher about c...
